I'm back viewers.After the frenzy of relatives,food,visiting and entertaining,I can finally sit down to rest before my relatives come again tomorrow.Of course,in the Chinese New Year,when relatives come and start chatting comes gossip, rumors and legends.If you never heard one,you have been probably living under a rock for the whole of your life.
Rumors and legends.Who don't like them?It is the lifeline of many paparazzi reporters,authors,directors and magazines.We encounter rumors all the time,this actor is married,that actress is in a three-way triangle and so on.Most are speculation that had became a big event due to the sensationalizing of the media.Even simple gossip that spread through the market becomes more and more exaggerated with every turn.Ms Chen's cancer is in the forth stage when she only went for a checkup,Mr Woo went to Geylang(Red-Light District)to do that...when all he did is buy fruits and it spreads like a wildfire.
Why do we like rumors so much?Imagine if I suddenly told you that President Obama is leaving his position or that Jack Neo was caught in another sex scandal. Would you be shocked?Would you want to know more?I presume that you will.That is the power of rumors.It makes people excited and want to know more.That's how rumors spread. Apparently,humans were made to like information,especially juicy and interesting ones that are unbelievable.That's why if someone tells you a rumor,you will become interested.
Legends are descendants of rumors.They are the ghost stories,the supernatural and the fictional.Everyone goes crazy over them.Many Hollywood movies have been made about aliens,the top genere of books in South-East Asia is Ghost stories and more.The Loch Ness Monster,the Bermuda Triangle.People often think of a way to explain something if Science and reasoning fails to do so.Which is why rumors and legends are formed.If I lack information,people will think of some to add in.If I only know that Mr Woo went to Geylang,but do not know anything else,someone else might supply that he went there to look for a girl,and someone else might think that he often quarrels with his wife,so...
As rumors become more and more widespread,they become legends.People can't explain them but believes it or doubts it.But then the rumor had became "eternalized" and everyone knows and talks about it.Which is why a thing like many ships disappearing in the ocean can become a case of aliens' work.
Of course,many will say that you should not trust rumors,but they are too popular and interesting to resist sometimes.I have heard of many ridiculous ones,like my principal being transferred to another school,which caught the attention of my maternal's family side.I spent the whole evening fending it off,which inspired this blogpost.Rumors and legend are good entertainment.Everyone needs it,cause all work and no play makes Jack or Jill a dull boy/girl.But always remember that we should not hurt anyone of embarrass someone with a rumor.Imagine if Mrs. Woo heard abou the rumor.So for the last time before monday blues hit,Happy New Year !And...
