Online Lesson - Descriptive Piece on War(30-3-11)

The smell of acrid smoke, rotting flesh, gasoline and blood fused into a lethal combination, and below it all,the cold hard smell of death. It looked like it smelt.I was stumbling around, my eyes failing to register the unrecognizable terrain,my weary legs unable to scale it.The wooden houses had disappeared in the rain of fire, like the martyrs on the battlefield, the ground covered in scrap metal,a shadow of their past. The trees were bare, the birds were silent.
"Kaboom!"The large explosion of an overhead shell shook the ground.Ground turned into sky as adrenaline charged into my veins,I was sprinting away even before people started to holler "Run!"Gun magazines started ripping into the air as dust flew up in huge plumes.I was too busy with making my way through the wasteland to stop and evaluate the origins of the screams that ripped through the eerie silence.
The air screeched as shells imploded nearby. The world had lost its gravity and everything was flying off their hinges. The roaring of a concrete wall falling sprayed my with its dust . I stumbled, swearing
as I crashed into what was the remnants of a house. The deafening sound of the planes roaring overhead and their whooshing jet of wind knocked me onto the ground as cold metal struck my knees.
My gun shot out of my hands.Disappearing into the burned land.I looked in despair. My knees were bleeding,my hands were bleeding and my body was crying for rest.I could only crouch down and search aimlessly. But the sound of foreign voices sounded in front of me.I looked and I saw the worst thing a soldier can see on the battlefield.I gripped the last defense on me,pulled out the pin, drew in my breath and jumping up,threw it out.
