"Is it better to have never known something and to ultimately lose it later."
Really?
Humans have one of the best memories in the diversity of living things. They can remember an important event from 5 years,10years back, even a few decades before.Yet some say that it is a curse more than a blessing. To have known something or someone you love, you cherish, only to lose it all,it can be a heartbreaking process. Many say thet it is better to have not known,to not have even met or know something in the first place.I personally feel perhaps it is better to know. Why?People will ask.I know what it feels to lose something like that forever, when I lost my Grandpa at a young age.Even though my memory of him is blurry,I remember him as a cheerful person with optimism, and my dad and granma still to this day feels sad to have lost him.
However, even though I understand that not everyone have the courage and mental strength to withstand this kind of heartbreak and yearning,I feel thatto have known is better than ignorance.there is a chinese saying that says,"It does'nt matters that you have something, what is important is that you had it before."I can sort of relate to what this means.I feel that it is more important to know something, for everything you love stays inside you and become part of you,and letting go and losing is just part of the cycle of life.In letting go,we gain something else. What is important is that it lives on in our heart. It may sound like some philosopical rubbish, but to know there is something great that we have once seen,or knowed about,is already a great privillege and we can't expect anything more, for we have no rights to own anything forever,so in letting go,perhaps it is more a grater achivement than anything else.
Memory is a painful thing, but it can bring joy and nolstogia. It isn't easy, but knowledge is power and we must muster the courage to know and not despair when it is lost.
I agree with you De Wei. To know something is better to have not known something at all. However, i have a different view for thinking that knowing something is better than not knowing it at all. I feel that by knowing something and losing it, one can learn how to appreciate it and treasure it. with this lesson, one will try to appreciate and treasure what one has for as long as it is around. It is also a learning experience for one. When one has lost something that one has known, one can learn to recover from the lost and depression of the lost and learn from his or her mistake.
